Vampire Weekend at the Greek in Berkeley

I am not sure how you guys feel about Vampire Weekend but I am an unashamed fan. I think they are a solid band, I don't hate on their ivy league pedigree or perceived hipster leanings. I just think they are a good band that makes good music. I am actually unsure if it's cool or not to like them. If 12 year olds are listening to them then that's ok with me...I guess. They start this mix off with their song, "Ottoman." Not new, just good. Then the mix goes into some electro rocky kinda stuff including a nice Ellie Goulding & Starsmith cover of Passion Pit's, "Sleepyhead." Man how old is this song? I think I should have released this mix two years ago.

My favorite part of the mix is the quiet folky stuff. Josh Ritter is exactly the kind of music that I have turned to in my old age. Since I am devoid of angst, and appreciative of quiet, pretty, well constructed songs. I also have the, "Notebook" on loop and watch it in my leopard print snuggie.  Josh is not only a great musician but an author as well. Quite the renaissance man.  His song, "Change Of Time" will be on the mix.  Sample below.

Jesse Woods falls into the same folky, acoustic type category.  There used to be a Fleet Foxes' song on here but Tres Quais, beat me to the punch so I had to change it up.  But I would put them in that category as well.  Two Jesse songs made the mix.  Including, "Sparks."   


Tashaki Miyaki have been splashing around on all of the blogs for a little while now. They remind of that Tennis, Best Coast, Warpaint sound. Nice dreamy female vocals mixed with some lo-fi soundscapes. No one seems to know much about them, even the previously linked to, Everybody Taste audio blog. Who I go to for most of my musical findings. No pictures come up in a search to find out why their name sounds like they are Asian. You'll mostly just come up with a bunch of blogs saying these guys are good, no idea who they are, listen to them. So that being said, these guys are good, listen to them.

Here is a video they did for their cover of the Sam Cooke classic, "Nothing Can Change This Love." Their cover of the Everly Brother's song, "I'll Have To Do Is Dream," will be on the mix.

I just realized that there are two songs from previous mixes on here.  Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr.'s, "Skeletons" was previously on the, "Ease Into Summer Mix." and Dirty Gold's, "California Sunrise" was on Indie Mix 7. Since it's already zipped and all of that I am not re-doing it. Sorry you guys will have to just delete those.
