Mixtape Roundup: Hip Hop

Here is a Jean Grae mixtape that dropped a while ago. I haven't given it a listen, mixtape tags bug the shit out of me. But Jean is a solid lyricist sponsered by Talib and signed to his Blacksmith label. She has put out some of my favorite songs, and no not just favorite songs from a female emcee, I mean favorite songs regardless of gender. Her work with Blue Sky Black Death was head noddingly fantastic.

Grab the mix here.

Peter Gunz of Uptown Baby, we get's down baby fame's son has been putting out tracks for quite awhile now.  He may also have a reality show, but that could have just been a bad dream, since like most of my nightmares I think Nick Cannon was in it.  Anyway here is a mixtape that he put out a month or so back.  Grab it from Nahright.com, here

Weezy F. Baby, don't forget the Baby!!!  This dropped a while ago as well.  I am sure real Wayne fans have gotten their grubby paws on it by now.  If you are late to the party or are wondering why anyone would forget the baby and just who this Weezy person is then you can download the mix right here.

I read an article where Bumpy said that he took some married lady who was trolling for a "dangerous" one night stand back to her hotel where he proceeded to sleep with her.  Afterward he stole her shit and jumped out the window.  That's just one of the reasons I am a fan of Bumpy.  He was also blowing up Solar all over the internet after Guru's passing.  He is a solid dude, who will rob you while you are in the shower, a man of contradictions and quality raps.  Grab his mixtape

Instrumental mixtape from DJ Burnone.  Now I can stop bugging Premier for beats.  You want how much!!???

Get it from TSS here.

R.I.P. Guru

The hip hop world lost a legend yesterday. Gifts Universal Rhymes Unlimited, born Keith Edward Elam, died on April 19 after a long battle with cancer. He was 43. Crazy that this all went down after he was in the headlines for a completely different medical problem a couple of months ago. Guru had gone into a coma after suffering a heart attack, DJ Premier, had tweeted that the rapper underwent a successful surgery and was recovering, although he was still under a medically-induced coma. Supposedly he recovered from all of that and was then taken by the cancer that he had been battling for over a year.

*Update* Guru's family released a statement today.

"The Elam family wishes to thank the fans of our son/brother/father uncle/nephew/cousin Keith aka GURU for the outpouring of love, concern and support.

Our hearts are broken by the loss of someone we loved so much. GURU was devoted to his young son, who will most keenly feel his absence.

GURU suffered from multiple myeloma for over a year. Accrued complications from this illness led to respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. As a result, GURU was in a coma from mid February until his death and never regained consciousness. Early on the morning of April 19th, he became hypertensive due to low blood pressure. He again went into cardiac arrest and slipped away from us.

GURU died far too young but he was, and we are, proud of all his many legendary musical contributions.

The family is not aware of any foundations established by GURU. We know and understand that countless fans want to express their condolences and love and, to that end, we are planning a memorial event in the near future that will be all-inclusive. Please look for further details from the family as they become available.

Just like everyone suspected when "Guru's" letter was released.  Solar is shady as fuck.

 More after the jump.
