Indie Mix 12

Awesome installation from Jim Houser's March show at Le Basse Projects in LA.  Check out more photos from the show here.

Tres Ouais is making me feel like a slacker with the way he has been producing mixes...I see Jeffro doesn't have the same inability to cope with guilt as I do.  Hey Ohhh!!  Low hanging fruit, Hi-YAAH!! *makes chopping motion*  I have actually had some mixes done but have been selfishly enjoying them myself.  Grab the latest Indie mix below or hit the jump for the tracklist and unnecessary words about said mix.

Indie Mix 12

Such a good show.

This mix starts off  with the War on Drugs, they have a kind of 80's male lead singer thing going on with their song, "Baby Missiles."  Next up is The Do, who have a Lykke Li/Santigold/MIA vibe going on with their song, "Slippery Slope."  King of the awesome indie covers, Yellow Ostrich comes through with his take on Yeasayer's, "Tightrope."  It's pure Yellow Ostrich with the looped backing vocals and mellow delivery.

The 60's stuff rears it's head in the form of, KIDS' rendition of, "Be My Baby."  This was originally on the previous mix but it was switched out for the male lead vocal of UFO Club's version.  Cults who have been all over mixes this year and last show up with their upbeat song, "Make Time."  Tim Cohen has a nice vibe to his song, "Don't Give Up."  Really into the arrangement and the instrumentation.  Same can be said for Dri's track, "Inspiration."  They feel kind of throwback to me and that works for me 60% of the time every time.

Bottles full of rocks, how did I not think of this before!!!  Totally stealing that...it looks so cooool.

The Morning Benders, *cough* excuse me I meant Pop ETC...yeeesh me no likey that new name, have another Ronette's cover on this mix.  This time, "Why Don't They Let Us Fall In Love."   If you didn't know that the Morning Benders are no longer the Morning Benders you can read about why they changed it here.  Oregon Bike Trails who may have the hipsterest name ever make excellent music.  Really like their track, "High School Lover."

Other stand outs for me include, Alexander, Alexander Fairchild, and Bronson.  Alexander is the solo project from the front man of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros.  His whole solo album is super good.  I think I may have squealed when I found the last copy on vinyl at Rasputin...don't judge me.  I swore I would never find it based on my half hearted hunting effort and stumbling upon this price on amazon.  You want how much??!!  The video for, "Truth," was featured in this eye candy along with a Bronson song.  The Bronson song on this mix is, "My Idle Bed" and it's my kinda of jam.  Alexander Fairchild's, "Place Is You" was featured in this eyecandy.  I think this song is brilliant.  Heartfelt, concise, well crafted, and oh so prettaay.
