Audrey and I have been testing out the new hip hop mix.  I try and tell her there is more to hip hop than just crack rap, but if they aren't talking about moving o's she just rolls her eyes and does that dismissive wanking motion.  Reaaaal classy Audrey, maybe you could do with some more culture!!!

Well despite Audrey's protestation there is a mixture of both crack rap and conscience rap on the mix.  I know some of it is too preachy and kumbaya for some people. *whispers Audrey*  But how can we appreciate the sweet without the sour?  How can we appreciate spandex without lunges.  Grab the download here or hit the jump for a preview.  Lots of videos and pictures so enter at your own risk.

Eye Candy

Nice breezy summer jam from Azure'. Bet it was cold as shit on that beach, but he is reppin the Bay no matter the temperature. I feel like I know his friends. They kind of look like they would be on campus at SFSU.


Holy shit this is fucking amazing. Sort of what the internet was made for. This had me rolling, god I love internet forums.


Okay maybe I spoke to soon, this is what the internet was made for. It's like the internet's greatest hits set to music...not very good music, but that's ok I still watched.

This is a pretty sweet stop motion short that re-creates the opening to, "Johnny Quest." About the short from the creator Roger Evans.

In 1964, Jonny Quest aired to rave reviews as the first, adult action/adventure cartoon in prime time. It had cool jazz music by Hoyt Curtin and terrific, high contrast pen and ink design work by Doug Wildey. As an animator and long time JQ junkie, I had always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures but, due to high production costs, the show only lasted one season; not long enough to spawn any kind of serious toys or other merchandising tie-ins. So, almost 50 years later, I made my own. Here is my Valentine to one of the coolest, if not THE coolest, cartoons ever to spin up the imagination of a 53-year-old man now going on six. Enjoy!

Was it really only on for one season?  Did they have a re-done version for when we were kids?  I distinctly remember watching this when I was little.  Although I couldn't say whether or not I watched more than one season, I blame it on my Seasame street attention span.  How cool is that intro music though?  Check out Roger's site here.

This is not really music related but what a great little video.  Danny was the fucking man.  He makes me want to find a wise old man and just shoot the shit with him all day.  It's like everything he said was a golden nugget of advice, I want to just transcribe everything he said and study it for later.  Truly inspiring stuff.  R.I.P. to an awesome guy and I hope you are doing well Annie, you guys are amazing.

Hip Hop Mix 9

This has nothing to do with the mix, but Yumiko Kayukawa does some awesome Japanese pop art stuff.  Incredibly clean paint lines.  It almost looks digitally rendered...she rules.

I have had this thing done since before I left for LA, which was months ago. I kept messing with it, adding and subtracting, re-ordering, it's a real problem. So I have to just say enough is enough and get this thing posted. So here it is Hip Hop mix 9.

Action Bronson

Action Bronson is a beast.  He has flow, lyrics, dude is the complete package and this beat is filthy.  The horns!!  The horns!!


There is also a song he did with Statik Selectah which is equally awesome on the mix.  But you can start by sampling this one first.

I didn't include any of Azure's music from his new mixtape on this mix but at least one of these songs would have made the cut if I had, had it in my hands before I compiled this. Azure' aka Justin Park was previously featured in this eye candy with his song, "As The Globe Spins." I have only heard two tracks from him but I appreciate the beat selection on both of the cuts that I have heard. His rhyme pattern seems a little forced/off kilter on some parts of, "Embedded Love" but overall he makes nice joints. You can grab his, "Illusions of Oasis" mixtape for free here.
