Mars-1 just had a show opening at Jonathan Levine Gallery in NYC, as usual it was pretty mindblowingly, awesome work. Check it out here. |
Just like a Mars-1 piece, Ipod shuffle mixes take seemingly random and chaotic elements of the universe and find geometric patterns that create a beautiful cohesive landscape of sound/visuals. Or not, it's possible that I just put my Ipod on shuffle and let the machines do all of the work. It's called chaotic curating, a term that I just made up right now. It's all about letting the robots out of the cage and seeing what they come up with. I have to say that they didn't do a horrible job. It may not be a Mars-1 masterpiece but it's definitely a couple steps above a paint by numbers.
The mix is a nice blend of girl groups, soul, some old people music and a small sprinkling of Indie. Download the Mix here. or hit the jump for samples and tracklist.
The first track is what me and the girls put on before we head out for a night at the club. Cuz we be looking for boys, Hollaaa...I mean, Yeah, yeah, yippidy yeah. The Pinups were basically scabs who crossed union lines to take the jobs of the Angels after they had a dispute with the record label. You go ahead and fight the power Angels, me? Imma get paid!!! Yippidy yeah.
When Isaac Hayes passed, DJ Haylow of Distortion 2 Static, put together a nice little tribute mixtape highlighting Isaac's awesomeness. The robots selected a couple of those for this mix and I am not mad at them.
Way back in the day we had a little discussion of Professor Longhair's vocal stylings on, "Big Chief pt. II" and how they were, "a horribly stereotypical racist representation of Native Americans." The end result of that discussion was me saying but it sounds cool right? Well guess who's back? This time he is insulting cancer patients, sufferers of Alopecia, and any bald headed women he sees. The song seriously starts out with "Looky there," as he points out a poor bald headed woman, probably just coming out of chemo. Who's next sir? Will your next song release your cruel comical wrath on handicapped, albino, Appalachians? Please say yes.
