Indie Mix 9

Igancio Torres', Stellar, an awesome series of gifs.  Read more about the series and see the rest of them here.

This is the last out of order indie mix before we become current.  Time for some normalcy in numbering.  Download the mix here. Or like always you can hit the jump for some samples and the whole tracklist.

Yellow Ostrich was previously featured on another indie mix. He has excellent taste in covers, and his awesomeness begs to be on just about every mix that I make. Seriously I think he is on 3 out of the next 4 mixes or something like that. He starts this mix off with a cover of Sharon Van Etten's song, "Love more." The original of that song can be found on, Yes Homo Mix 6. Both the cover and the original are excellent.  Yellow Ostrich does a slow burn approach to this song, hauntingly plodding and pretty.

There is some music more worthy of foot tapping on the mix.  Walter Meego has that 80's flair and follows right behind the Yellow Ostrich song.  They are upbeat and danceable pop.  The song kind of straddles that line of I like it but I am really close to being annoyed by it.  I get told the same thing from the ladies, so I understand the world you inhabit Walter. Video for the song below.

There is a back and forth push and pull thing on this mix.  Slowed down neo-folk followed by some 80's club jams.  It's a little grab bag of a mix.  I have had this in rotation for months so I don't enjoy it as much as the new stuff I have been hearing, but it had it's time and place and there are some new gems that maybe you guys haven't heard.  Jesse Woods previously fawned about in this post. Blesses us with two more, pretty, mellow, neo-folk jams. I really think this guy could be one of my favorite dudes making music right now. Here is a live version of one of the songs on the mix, "Gold In The Air" that he performed for Invisible Children. Invisible Children is run by Nada from Friends With Both Arms, her, her organization, and her site rule.

Following the same sort of groove as Jesse is Lord Huron who step up with, "We Went Wild." Great Fleet Foxes like, woodsy, pleasing tune. Out of all of the indie sub-genres I think this type is my favorite.

Boy & Bear might fall into the same camp right?
