I like Rueben Rude's stuff. He shows a lot at Fabric8 on Valencia, a local artist supporting a local gallery, that's always nice. I have pined for one of his pieces for a long time and I was impressed with the current body of work he put out for his current solo show. The show, titled "Place to Place," is currently at Thinkspace Gallery, in L.A. To view the show online click the link in the caption. Really good work, always liked his style.
"Awhile"
One more piece and an indie mix behind the jump. Follow meeee. *Waves hands and skips ahead*
This is a great little cartoon titled, "Three Little Bops." It's a reworking of "The Three Little Pigs," with a great message about how if you want to succeed in the music business you must first burn in hell...I really do think that's the moral of the story. Those Three pigs are some elitist ass musicians, give that groupie wolf a shot, maybe guide him into to becoming a better musician...or kill him, either way.
I couldn't embed this, but head on over to Boing Boing for some crazy Russian dancing set to Jason Nevin's remix of Run DMC'S, "It's like that."
Yellow Ostrich will be coming to the Bottom of The Hill on March 26th. Tickets are $12 here. I am mostly familiar with the fantastic covers that he does, but I can't imagine the show will be disappointing.
Queen of the Yes Homo Pop Princess mixes, Priscilla Ahn, has a new album coming out. Here is the Single, "Love" that will only be released in Japan. It stars her and her Husband. *Shakes fist*
I wonder how many times Jane Lui has been described as quirky. Here she is with the title track off of her new album, "Goodnight Company." Download for free here.
Jane Lui
Dawen, gets a little muppety in some registers on this song...in my opinion. Anyway the video is pretty sweet, it's so technological, so savvy, too bad it's already outdated. IPAD 2 SUCKAAA!!! Dawen- Just The Way You Are (Bruno Mars cover)
I did that thing again, where I am like wow this band is amazing, I love them, then I put them on a mix, and then I get informed that Tres Ouais has already done so. Man that guy has great taste. Anyway here is Tennis, the husband and wife team who sailed all over the place by themselves. Living on a sail boat, writing songs, making awesome music, that's quite a life there.
This has already been everywhere because I don't hit submit fast enough. Radiohead just dropped their new album...maybe you heard. I bet you have already seen this too. It's the video for, "Lotus Flower." I think it's awesome, I am not hating on Thom's dance moves.
This video was of course followed by a flood of videos that made Thom dance to other people's music. Expected and mildly appreciated. *golf clap for you internet*
Radiohead- Lotus Flower single ladies
Uhhh amazing. Baboon. Fishhhhh.
Mac Miller with a nice little video for his song- Donald Trump.
Just spent a nice weekend down in Los Angeles, where the mural to the left can be found. There are several pieces by El Mac and Retna near my brother's house in West Hollywood/Little Armenia/Thai Town. Really amazing work with spraypaint, those guys have mad skeelz. To check out El Mac's site, click the link in the caption.
We basically spent the whole weekend eating, which is usually the point of my vacations. We hit up some excellent spots and hung out with some good people. To prepare for the drive down I frantically made several mixes. So you can be on the lookout for those, I'm talking to you....dirty sock on the floor I have named Morton. *whispers, please enjoy the music Morty, it's all for you*
There are three Indie mixes, kind of completed. The first one is completely done, while the others may need some tweaking. Two hip hop mixes were completed for the roadtrip, one is probably good to go, the other could do with a closer examination. Also, everyone please raise your glasses in celebration for a fabulous new Yes Homo mix being complete. I also have an eyecandy post that I keep adding videos to but not posting. Unsure if anyone cares about those...you like music videos Morton?
That's what's on the horizon, until then, I should probably post some music. This song by the late great Johnny Cash, comes from his Sun Records days. It's just a really simple, sweet, touching, love song. Pop doing what Pop should do. Have a listen, download it of you want.
The art above is by Matte Stephens, his Etsy can be found by clicking the link in the caption. I am partial to his Manhattan print and the rest of his city themed prints. I am also partial to dancing in Tiny bubble rooms.
The newest soul mix is the perfect fodder for tiny bubble room dancing. At least towards the end. It starts out slow like most of my mixes seem to do. Then it delves into some slow, doo-wopish, falsetto type songs. They are almost more doo-wop/oldie than soul, but it's a fine line and they are good songs so they get the nod. After that it breaks on through to the other side with a handful of more upbeat tunes. Some of them are even newer songs that have been released within the last couple of years.
Compiled all of the upcoming shows that have not passed yet and added a bunch of new ones.

To the left is a great piece by the amazing Jim Houser. He has such a nice aesthetic. Great muted, subdued color palette, with concise striking design sensibilities. He does amazing work and I have been a fan for a long time, just thought I would share his skill for the uninitiated. Now on to the music.
The saying goes, every actor wants to be a rock star and every rock star wants to be an actor. It makes sense, most actors grow up doing all of that drama geek sort of stuff. High school musicals and the like. Though the saying may be true, few actors are able to cross back and forth between the two worlds successfully. This new mix has two actors that make music that I actually enjoy listening to. One is Jason Schwartzman and his band Coconut records, they made their first appearance on the last mix. The other is Baby goose himself, Ryan Gosling *swoon* and his friend Zach Shields, with their project called, Dead Man's Bones. Baby Goose, songs about zombies, kids choirs!!! Ahhh it's too much indie to handle. *Rocks back and forth waiting for a stoplight on a fixie* Tracklist and download link behind the jump.
