September Fleet Foxes are playing the Greek theater in Berkeley on Saturday September 10th. Tickets are $39.50 plus service charges and can be found here.
Zion-I, who are always playing around here. They live in Oakland after all, will be playing the Fillmore on Friday, September 16th. The show is always worth going to, tickets are $35 including service charges and are available here.
Bon Iver will be at the Greek as well on Thursday, September 22nd. Tickets are $39.50 plus service charges, grab them here.
TV On The Radio will be at the Fox theater in Oakland. I like the Fox a lot more than the Greek. Much more intimate, the Greek is awesome, it's just so big. Anyway, they will be here on Tuesday, September 27th. $35 plus charges. Get yo tickets here.
Braids who I am a big fan of will be at The Bottom of The Hill in San Francisco. Their show is on Tuesday, September 27th, the same night as the TV On The Radio show. Tickets are $10 and you can get them here.
Toro Y Moi has a two show stint at the Great American Music Hall. Saturday and Sunday, October 1st and 2nd. $21 tickets are available here
On October 8th and 9th, Girls and Sonny and the Sunsets will be at the Great American Music Hall. This should be an excellent show. Tickets are $20 and are available here
The Drums are playing the Independent on Friday October 14th. Tickets are $15 and are available here. The Drums have previously been featured on a couple of Indie mixes, specifically Indie Mix 5.
Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, whom I still carry a very bright torch for will be at the Independent on, Sunday October 16th. I think I can safely put this in the will definitely attend category. Also in addition to them being awesome, the tickets are only $16. Grab them here.
November
Lykke Li will be at the Fox Theater on Wednesday, November 9th. Tickets are $35. Grab them here. I like to change the lyrics of her song, "I'm your prostitute," into a kid friendly song called, "I'm your bandicoot." I may attend just to pitch her the idea and show her my costume.
I am a big fan of Blind Pilot. I will be going to this one for sure. They are playing the Great American Music Hall on Saturday, November 19th. Grab tickets for $18 here.
Some of the shows from this Upcoming Show post are still in play. It's not too late!!!
January
The Pharcyde are having an unreasonably priced show at the Shattuck Down Low on Saturday, January 8th. $23 tickets are on sale now. Not really sure what I would pay for the Pharcyde, but I know that I won't pay $23. If you are in serious need of some nostalgia then this show is all you. I saw them back in college and that's probably good enough for the rest of my life. Not that they sucked, but shieeet it's not like they are Tribe.
Mac Miller who impressed me with a couple tracks off of his K.I.D.S. mixtape will be at Slim's on Thursday, January 20th. Doors open at 8:00, show starts at 9:00 and $17 tickets are on sale now here. Look for two tracks from him on the next hip hop mix. He has that nice old school sound, with a nice flow.
I love Zion-I and this is right in my neighborhood. They will be at the New Parish on Friday, January 21st. Tickets are $23 and located here. I know these guys are worth $23. See them if you haven't or even if you have, they don't disappoint.
The weirdos from Deerhoof are having an album release party at The Great American Music Hall on Friday, January 28th. Get your $19 tickets here. They are a little too weird for me, but if the subject of a Panda ever comes up I automatically sing the Deerhoof refrain, Panda, panda...
Black Thought, leader of the infamous Roots crew will be solo for an upcoming show at the New Parish. The show is on Wednesday, January 26th and it starts at 8:30. Tickets are about $28 and can be found here. I love Black Thought, but I love The Roots as a collective unit more. I think if I went I might just be sad that Questlove wasn't there. I know he can get down though, so I am sure the show will be solid.
February
If you like seriously depressing music, or earnest song writing with seductive female vocals do I have a show for you. Cat Power is performing at the Fillmore on Friday, February 4th. Doors open at 9:00. Not sure how much the tickets are because they are not up for grabs yet. They will be available on Sunday, January 9th. Here.
If you require your emcees to have an ivy league pedigree and reference Foucault in their rhymes, then...I kind of hate you. I don't really hate these guys though. Das Racist, the jewels of the hipster hip hop scene, do they count as jewels if I just made that scene up? Either way, they will be at The Independent on Wednesday, February 2nd. The show starts at 8:00 and you can purchase $15 tickets here. I like his hat...and his beard.
I have heard that Knowledge Reigns Supreme Over Nearly Everyone. I forget who told me that though and it's completely unrelated to KRS One having a show in Berkeley I just thought it sounded like a nice segway. This man was literally born across the street from the park that birthed hip hop. His credentials are bona fide. He will be at The Shattuck Down Low on Friday, February 18th. $16 tickets are available here.
April
Cults, whom I had the pleasure of seeing open for The Morning Benders are playing at the Independent on Thursday, April 14th. Tickets are not available yet, but they will be $13 and for sale here on Friday, Jan 7th. Really solid group and I think their star has been rising with their song, "Go Outside," which was previously featured on the last Indie Mix. I base this theory on the fact that I saw a friend post their video on his Facebook, they're HUGE I tell ya.
Breaking these down by month. Seems to make the most sense.
October
Uhhh not sure why you would pay $15 for this but if you are bored tonight and happen to be near the Independent why not go watch the Air Sex Championships? Actually I can think of a lot of reasons why not to go, but I won't judge you if you do. Tickets are available here. I expect a full recap and re-enactment of the championship routine if you do in fact venture into that darkened dungeon of pelvic thrusting stage humping madness.
Lyrics Born, Chali 2na, and Rakaa of Dilated Peoples have a show at The Independent on Friday October 22. Tickets are kind of money but that's a pretty solid trio of underground hip hop. These guys meant a lot to me back in the day. Doors open at 8:30, the show starts at 9:00, and $25 tickets can be purchased here.
Murs, Moe Green, and J. Billion will be at the Shattuck Down Low on Saturday, October 23rd. The show starts at 9:00 and $17 tickets can be found here. Huge fan of Murs, one of my top emcees, witty, great delivery, and solid beats. If you don't know about him you better axe somebody.
The Best Coast will be at The Great American Music Hall on Tuesday, October 26. Doors open at 7:00 and the show starts at 8:00. $15 tickets can be purchased here.
DeerHunter will be at The Great American Music Hall on Friday, October 29th. Doors open at 8:00, the show starts at 9:00. Tickets are $17 and are available here. If you can't make that show they will also be at Slim's on Saturday, October 30. Doors open at 8:00, the show starts at 9:00. Tickets are $17 and are available here.
November
Stars, who have the first song on this mix. Have a show at the Fillmore on November 10th, which is a Wednesday. Doors open at 8:00 and tickets are $39.50 once the extra fees have been slapped on. Grab them here or save yourself $12 in fees by going to the actual box office.
Zion-I, Locksmith, Hold Up, Bayliens, and DJ Kevvy Kev will have a show at Slim's on Saturday November 20th. Doors open at 8:00 for the 8:30 showtime and tickets are $20 advanced sales and $23 at the door. Grab them here. If you can't attend that one you can catch them the following night with Eligh and Scarub, Bang Data, Hold up, and The Oakland Faders, on Sunday, Nov 21st at the same venue, same showtime, and same price. Pick your poison. Tickets for that show can be found here.
Souls of Mischief, Candlespit Collective, Broken Complex, Uephoric, and DJ Pause have a show at Slim's on Wednesday, November 24th. Doors open at 8:00, the show starts at 9:00. $21 tickets can be purchased here. Local heroes, underground legends, Souls reps the Bay Area underground scene to the fullest. This will be a real hip hop show that people shouldn't miss out on.
December
People Under The Stairs or P.U.T.S., will be at Slim's on Friday, December 3rd. Tickets are $19 and will be available here on Sunday, October 24th. These dudes are some underground icons. They have that golden age sound with beats constructed from actually digging for records, what!!!?? Who does that anymore.
The Grouch, Brother Ali, Eligh, and Los Rakas will be at the Independent on Wednesday, December 15th. Doors will open at 7:30 with a showtime of 8:00. Advance tickets are $20, $22 at the door. They will be on sale on Friday here.

Upcoming shows time. I arranged them differently this time. Whereas before they were by venue, now they are by date. I just like to switch it up, I do the same thing with my workout routine. Sometimes I bench press cars, sometimes Municipal buildings. It just depends on the mood I am in.
September
Vetiver will be performing with The Fresh & Onlys as their openers. They will be Vetivering all over your ear canals at.The Independent on Sunday, September 5. Doors: 7:30 PM / Show: 8:00 PM. $15 tickets can be found here.

I guess this is for the hardcore Cash fans who never got to see him live.
Saturday, September 25, Vampire Weekend with guests: Beach House and The Very Best will be at the Greek Theater in Berkeley. I am a big fan of Beach House, who's coming with me? The show starts at 7:00PM and general admission tickets are $37.50 plus service charges. Tickets are online here or go to the box office in Berkeley or the Fox to avoid service charges.
Perfume Genius and two yet to be named acts will be making The Bottom of the Hill smell fancy on September 27. The show starts at 9:00, Doors open at 8:30. $10 advance tickets with a booking fee of $2.01 means the $12 at the door tickets are pretty much the same damn thing. If you would like to lock down your place and buy tickets now though, have at it.
October
Fri, October 01, The Duckdown crew will be rolling into Slim's. This is a pretty quality group of performersrepping that real hip hop of days gone by. Sean P is my dude, he still gets an automatic listen when he is featured. Pharoahe is a solid lyricist, while Buck is hit or miss for me. A guaranteed quality show though.
The Duckdown 15th Anniversary Tour will feature:
Pharoahe Monch
Boot Camp Clik featuring Buckshot, Sean Price & Smif N Wessun
Kidz in the Hall
Skyzoo
DJ Evil Dee

Sat, November 20, Slim's is at it again. This night local legends and room rockers, Zion I bring the ruckus. I highly recommend anyone who has not seen these guys live, attend this. I have lost count of how many times I have seen them but they have never done a bad show while I have been there. Even rocking for a crowd of five people for Black Family Day, in Davis, these guys get down no matter the situation. They can make non hip hop fans stans in the matter of a set. Beleedat.
Showtime: 9:00 PM (Doors: 8:00 PM)
Ticket price: $20/$23
Tickets available on-line at: slimstickets.com
All Ages 6 and Over
You guys took my previous advice and went to the Insane Clown Posse show right? How was it? Did you guys figure out how magnets work?
Well I hope you enjoyed yourselves. I only went to one show out of the many that were posted...and no it wasn't the Wondergirls one. I saw Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings at the Warfield and it was awesome. The Dap Kings are seriously one of the greatest live bands ever. The Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings concert experience is at the top of my list for quality shows. Sharon has way too much energy for being in her 50's, she never misses a note, she belts everything out with so much skill it's unbelievable, and she can get down with a James Brownsian flare that will put anyone to shame. You add this together with the solid backing of the Dap Kings and you have one of the best concerts I have ever been to. Look, Zumbi from Zion-I and his twitter agree with me.
We were actually standing right next to him when he tweeted this but I didn't want to bother him, or creep him out by whispering, "I love your band," in his ear. I will say this though, that dude is a gentleman, he was carrying his girl's purse for her and he went to go get her a bottle of water. That's a keeper, I make girls carry everything for me, even my keys, because I don't like the way they rub against my delicate legs when they are in my pocket. Plus it's easier for them to hand and then light me a cigarette when they already have that stuff in their possession. All I have to do is snap, it's easier for everyone that way.
Onto business. Shows you should go to and creepily watch someone tweet at behind the jump.
