Here are two new mixes I've been slowly tweaking over the past couple months. The first one is a collection of neo-folk stuff (a lot of which is from Bath, UK -- apparently they are having a huge folk revival there, who knew?). The kernel of the mix were a few songs I couldn't stop listening to from the Wilco & Billy Bragg album of Wood Guthrie covers, "Mermaid Avenue" (a must have, btw). Then I slowly accumulated folky/alt-country/alt-rocky stuff that I thought worked together (e.g. Iron&Wine, Joanna Newson, Laura Marling, War on Drugs). Hope you like it.
Neo Folk & Friends Mix
The second mix is my usual indie-rock stuff with a chunk of electronica (e.g. James Blake & Bon Iver, Toro y Moi, Washed Out, Neon Indian, St. Vincent), a couple harder rocking songs (Wu Lyf, Crystal Antlers), some more John Maus (buy his new record!), and finished off with a random hip hop song by Kendrick Lamar (I love hip hop, but I never have enough new stuff for a whole mix; plus DJ Greybush handles it so much better than I could). Enjoy.

Eye Candy
Models plus Jay-z equals...I guess I'll post it.
Ha this is a pretty awesome video by Diego Stocco. I will try this at my office, I will loop the yelp of my co-worker when I spill coffee on them with the sound of my tipping over the copy machine and breaking glass by throwing a stapler through my computer monitor. "I'll write YOU up!!! This is art!!!" *Sticks mic in whimpering co-workers face.* "Excellennnt"
I seriously had a video of Hitler singing the theme to the Jefferson's that I was going to post. In lieu of that I offer something equally offensive? I am not sure, my offensive meter is way out of whack these days.

Not totally my kind of music, but I could watch him dance for hours. "I could eat a peach for hours."I seriously had a video of Hitler singing the theme to the Jefferson's that I was going to post. Album Review: Blind Pilot
I have had the new Blind Pilot album for a little over a month now. When I first heard it I can't say I immediately loved it. Actually let me show you what I wrote in an email to Tres Ouais.
"It's only ten tracks and 38 minutes so I was able to give it a listen last night. It's not as good as the last album. It seems like they are happier, which is good for them, but I liked the sad yearning melancholy songs off the last album.
The instrumentals lean more towards country and they don't seem as nuanced or intimate to me. I thought the last album had a great stripped down, slow build tempo. This seems more jangly and seems like it comes from all angles, several layers that blend with each other and sort of get in the way. I'll have to give it another listen, it's better than a lot of what's going on but it's not the greatest thing ever."
Yeah...don't email me about a new album unless you want a pompous dissection of said album. *Adjusts ascot* I haven't dedicated a huge amount of more time listening to it, but from what I have heard I don't really know what I was talking about the first time. My new review is that it sounds like a pretty solid album. I was totally head over heels in love with their last album so I may have approached the first listen expecting to be let down. I stand by the not as good as the last album statement, but there are some really good songs on the new one. I think from now on I will just recommend albums and not review them. You can grab the new album from their site here. Don't forget that they are playing the Great American Music Hall on Saturday, November 19th. You can grab tickets for $18 here.
Live video of one of my favorites off of the new album, "White Apple."
One of the happier ones and the title track, "We Are The Tide."
Bonus: "Ovideo" off of their last album, "3 Rounds and A Sound." Uhhh, that album was so good.

Eye Candy
Oh Jane. Jane Lui has been featured on Eye Candy before. Weren't we just talking about how this is one of the theme songs that warrants being covered? Well I know I was, I just didn't think anyone was listening. You have answered my prayers Jane.
Dumbfoundead featuring Andrew Garcia- BRB. I really liked Andrew when he was on American Idol. I was like, I would buy that dude's album...I don't really know if he has an album, I kind of broke that promise, but I'll post his video. Even though I don't really think it's that great. He is doing that R&B style chorus in a hip hop song that I am not a fan of. He has a nice voice though and I do like Dumbfoundead.
Wow Biggie can sound good over anything...including Thomas the Tank Engine. That Train is gangsta!!!
Minji Aye Hong did such an awesome reworking of this movie title sequence for the Japanese film, "Yoshino's Barber Shop."
Here is another one of her videos and it is equally awesome.

Compare that with the original. I have no interest in seeing this based on the original, but that new version could make me watch anything. Here is another one of her videos and it is equally awesome.

Eye Candy
Awww she's so sweet...oh my god she has an airbrushed hat and it's sideways don't trust her!!! This is not why your parents paid for those music lessons young lady. I am unfamiliar with the flute solo, is this usually how it goes down? She sounds like Rahzel was her music teacher.
Very well done video for the song, "The Age of Steam" by Andy McNeil who performs under the name, The Maple Mountain Sunburst Triolian Orchestra.
"Andy describes it as "A steam-driven adventure, a tale of love and yearning propelled by a soundtrack of omnichord, brass, and dobro. And beats.""The video was shot on location at the Model Railroad Club of Toronto," he adds, "And it was directed by my old friend Tony Coleman. via."
Last Air Benders (Planet Asia) from kAssim norris on Vimeo.
This beat is a keeper. Planet Asia reppin the No, like Ickey Woods...you guys even know who that is? You better axe someone about the Ickey shuffle. This sounds like the kind of scary ass song Vinnie Paz would rap over. JEDI MIND BABY!!!
A little conversation with Exile. We could all benefit from talking to Exile for a couple of minutes.

Eye Candy
Nice breezy summer jam from Azure'. Bet it was cold as shit on that beach, but he is reppin the Bay no matter the temperature. I feel like I know his friends. They kind of look like they would be on campus at SFSU.
Holy shit this is fucking amazing. Sort of what the internet was made for. This had me rolling, god I love internet forums.
Okay maybe I spoke to soon, this is what the internet was made for. It's like the internet's greatest hits set to music...not very good music, but that's ok I still watched.
Jonny Quest Opening Titles from Roger D. Evans on Vimeo.
This is a pretty sweet stop motion short that re-creates the opening to, "Johnny Quest." About the short from the creator Roger Evans.
In 1964, Jonny Quest aired to rave reviews as the first, adult action/adventure cartoon in prime time. It had cool jazz music by Hoyt Curtin and terrific, high contrast pen and ink design work by Doug Wildey. As an animator and long time JQ junkie, I had always wanted a set of Jonny Quest action figures but, due to high production costs, the show only lasted one season; not long enough to spawn any kind of serious toys or other merchandising tie-ins. So, almost 50 years later, I made my own. Here is my Valentine to one of the coolest, if not THE coolest, cartoons ever to spin up the imagination of a 53-year-old man now going on six. Enjoy! Was it really only on for one season? Did they have a re-done version for when we were kids? I distinctly remember watching this when I was little. Although I couldn't say whether or not I watched more than one season, I blame it on my Seasame street attention span. How cool is that intro music though? Check out Roger's site here.
Danny & Annie from StoryCorps on Vimeo.
This is not really music related but what a great little video. Danny was the fucking man. He makes me want to find a wise old man and just shoot the shit with him all day. It's like everything he said was a golden nugget of advice, I want to just transcribe everything he said and study it for later. Truly inspiring stuff. R.I.P. to an awesome guy and I hope you are doing well Annie, you guys are amazing.
